Week 12, Session 2

16/10
Presentation

We were really pleased with how our presentation went. We thought we might have had too much to try and get through but we didn't go over time and we felt we covered all the important information well.

I really enjoyed this paper and how there was no defined outcome, it gave us a lot more freedom to do something that we felt would be best suited for the problem. I also felt that the fact we were working in teams helped immensely; the ability to bounce ideas off someone else and have that critique on hand really helped to quickly move our project forward.

Week 12, Session 1

15/10
Last class

Today just consisted on practicing the presentation and getting a feel for what we would be saying.

Week 11, Session 2

9/10
Dossier and presentation

We spent today working on the dossier and presentation and got some final feedback from the tutors.

By the end of the day we had finished the project.

We found it really useful to be up to doing the dossier at this point as we could get feedback on that instead of just the project. Tim advised that maybe we focus on conveying the ideas and meanings of things rather than just showing website screens for example.

It was good to have time to go back through the dossier and presentation a lot more to ensure that we have it perfect seeing as that's ultimately that is the only way we are conveying our project after the presentation and therefore our grade comes entirely from the way it is worded and what it shows.

Moving forward >>>

From here we need to practice the presentation and ensure that everything flows well.

It would also be good to go through the dossier a few more times to make sure there aren't any last tweaks to make.

We also want to get the dossier printed.

Week 11, Session 1

8/10
Finishing off designs and logistics

Today was all about finishing off designs and finalising the logistical elements of the project. We also got some last minute advice from the tutors before we got stuck into the dossier.

The advice was all good stuff and really helped us to resolve all the little things that we weren't 100% on.

It was also good to start the dossier today as I felt that by going through and typing it up this early we could see what we were potentially missing or what needed tweaking. I also felt that I had a clearer and more confident understanding of our project while also being able to go back and tweak stuff  seeing as we still have a week to go.

Moving forward >>>

Ideally, we would finish the dossier tomorrow morning so that we can put together a great presentation but there are some design elements that we really want to fix up first.

Ultimately, we want to have the whole project finished tomorrow to allow us time to do other papers that we have put off and give us time to fix any drastic changes that may need to be done.

Enspiral Space

6/10
Enspiral Space

Yesterday we spent all morning working in Enspiral to try and get a better idea of industry workspaces. Enspiral is a shared workspace where freelances or other small businesses can go to rent a spot in the space. It is focussed around the idea of facilitating collaboration and inspiration through a real community feel.

It was great to really experience how people interact in the workspace on a regular workday. We found that it confirmed our research around the fact that the majority are purely function-based workers who only stop occasionally to make a coffee or go to the bathroom. We found that there was not as much interaction between the workers as we had anticipated - purely because of the values Enspiral is based off we assumed that it would be better here.

It was also amazing to see the implementation of separate, smaller, modular workspaces for specific needs - very similar idea to Think Space. Around the office various rooms had been allocated uses such as 'the Skype room' and 'the break room'. 'The break room' was actually a small shed like structure that had been brought into the office and was dark and sound proof inside to create a surreal, relaxing feel.

The small spaces have been very popular at Enspiral and made us feel very confident about our idea.

Week 10, Session 2

2/10
Just working on the project

Today we just worked through our project and then had a talk on submission requirements and what happens in fourth year. The tutors were also wandering around giving feedback.

We worked on the space and decided that there should be two different sized spaces for different uses. We started rendering them.

We also worked on making our in-office material more purposeful. We cut out some elements and decided that, for it to be relevant at all, the elements need to be educational and act as a constant reminder.

Moving forward >>>

From here we need to finish the renders and put them in context to create a more understandable visual representation of the concept. We also really need to get stuck into the website as that is the element that sort of ties everything together and explains the idea.

Week 10, Session 1

1/10
Interim

Today we merged all the streams and basically just laid out our work and talked to people about it or let them look at it while we roamed around looking at everyone else's.

We got a lot of feedback from people and now have a lot to think about. Most of the feedback talked about logistical stuff which needs to be finalised/developed.

It was useful to get feedback from people who have never seen our project before and to let the project speak for itself. I also found it useful to see ideas from other groups and how creative some people have been to get inspired.

Moving forward >>>

From here we definitely need to work on the logistics and creating some renders of the space in context so that people can have a better understanding of it.
