Week 6, Session 2

21/8
Rapid ideation

We did an exercise where we had 10 mins (?) to come up with 50 ideas for the solution to our brief, ten for each of the five sections of wellbeing. The ideas could be as crazy as we wanted.

After we had come up with the 50 we picked the five best and swapped the list with another team who worked on an idea to make it better.

Our best ideas were:

  • Paint the city
  • Isolated large spaces
  • Green spaces
  • Wind/weather breaks
  • Moving all the traffic/roads underground
The idea that the other team chose was 'paint the city'. They came up with the idea that instead of painting colours/messages on the ground that they should be on the walls to encourage people to look up. They also suggested that the public could have some sort of contribution into the actual painting process and pointed out that there is the potential to include guest artists.

This process really helped us get moving as we had spent the last 5 weeks trying not to think about solutions and found it hard to finally get started on them. This technique really loosened us up and got us brainstorming.

We also found that although our top five weren't necessarily viable that there was something within each one that could really be taken further and could potentially become our solution.

Moving forward >>>

From here I think we should really break down each of those five ideas to come up with the essence so that we can test if there is any real gold in there.
